Q: How old does my child have to be to take lessons at Burbank Music Academy?
A: A general rule is 4-5 years old for Piano and Voice, 5-6 years old for Guitar and Bass, 6-7 years old for Drums and 8 and up for Band and Orchestra Instruments. It depends on the size and maturity of the child and the size and type of instrument that you choose. Please bring your child in to Burbank Music Academy and we will help you evaluate if they are ready for lessons.

A: No, BMA does not currently charge a registration fee.

Q: How much are lessons?
A: We think you will find Burbank Music Academy's prices to be extremely competitive. Please see our "Prices" page or for more details or call us at the Academy, 818-845-7625

Q: How long are your lessons?
A: The private lesson program at Burbank Music Academy provides for a 30 minute lesson or a 60 minute lesson depending on the needs and goals of the student. Lessons are priced accordingly.

Q: How long does it take to learn an instrument?
A: There is no set answer to this question. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to constantly improve and they find their lessons enjoyable and challenging.

Q: I don't have any musical background or ability. Can I still help my child practice?
A: Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background, you can ask your child's teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day, you will help your child progress. Many parents occasionally sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioned. Parents should always talk to the teacher at the end of each lesson so they know what the student is supposed to practice.

Q: I am an adult and wish to take lessons for the first time. Is your school just for children?
A: Burbank Music Academy is for anyone who has an interest in music, regardless of their age. Our lessons are designed to help each student progress at their own pace whether they are a child or an adult. Everyone can enjoy a music education. Emphasis can placed on music for recreation, not performance. We have several families at BMA that all take lessons at the same time with different teachers. Music will enrich anyones life, let us show you how.

Q: Why is it better to study at BMA then privately with a home instructor?
A: Studying music in a school environment provides the student with a professional, focused atmosphere, free from the distractions of a ringing phone, siblings or the TV. Students have frequent performance opportunities, both formal and informal. They also interact with other music students and are exposed to many genres of music at different levels. These aspects of the academy plus the psychology of going to a specific location for music study serve to motivate students and to heighten the concentration level of student and teacher.

Q: My child wants to stop taking lessons, what should I do?
A: Often we are able to help our students work through any problems that they may have with focus, motivation or commitment. We encourage our students to seek guidance from the Academy, our staff or their individual teacher. Frequently it's something as simple as trying a different instrument, different approach or even a different teacher. We are always here to help, just ask.
